During last night's Presidential Town Hall debate, John McCain said "my friends" on the order of 20-30 times. It got annoying, because it didn't sound genuine. He then referred to Barack Obama as "that one" exactly once, but it was easily just as memorable as his other phrase of choice. On top of that, it has really struck a chord with the voting public, and if you Google "that one," many of the highest ranked results are about the debate. In fact, some folks have already begun creating t-shirts and websites commemorating the remark.
So, thank you, McCain, for initiating millions of Americans into the "Vote for "that one" Club." I'm in.

I really think the "That One" comment will be the remembered moment from these debates. It just came off so badly. When the narrative was starting to gel around McCain's angry disdain for Obama... this didn't help.
And then today he said "my fellow prisoners" when he meant to say "my fellow Americans." That won't help the narrative that he's a little off balanced... a little stuck fighting the Vietnam war in his approach to Iraq (like saying we'll leave with honor).
Another day, another burst of hatred from Palin/McCain rallies. Today it was someone shouting "Off with his head!"
When they eventually rile up the ignorant and susceptible enough to a point that violence finally occurs, watch how fast they'll be to discount any actual influence or involvement.
